One of my favourite words is ‘quagmire.’
The word "quagmire" can refer to both a physical and a metaphorical situation:
Literal Meaning:
A soft, wet, muddy area that can be difficult or dangerous to walk through.Figurative Meaning:
A complex or precarious situation that is hard to escape from.
